RM of Meadow Lake’s story
The Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake No. 588 became an incorporated rural municipality on February 1, 1976. It lies in northwestern Saskatchewan and surrounds the city of Meadow Lake, the village of Dorintosh, the resort village of Greig Lake and the organized hamlet of South Waterhen Lake. Several First Nations reserves are also found within its boundaries, including Flying Dust First Nation, Waterhen, Eagles Lake and Thunderchild First Nation 115D.
Today the RM is governed by an elected council and an appointed administrator, with its office in Meadow Lake. It is known for its outdoor recreation. Meadow Lake Provincial Park, the largest provincial park in Saskatchewan at over 1,600 square kilometres, lies within the RM. The Saint Cyr Hills Trails Recreation Site, centred on Ski Lodge Lake, offers hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, and is maintained by the St. Cyr Trails Club. Visitors can also find recreation sites at Beaver River, Island Lake and Nesset Lake.
